It was a normal day. Wind whistled through trees, across deserts of sand and ice, herded people indoors and powered their technology. Technology designed and made, like all other technology, in Esthar.

Technology is a word that can be used to describe the most diverse group of creations. Computers, heaters, watches, clothing and then there is the less innocent technology, that of war, chaos and death. Guns, tanks, bombs and even the sword. However, it wasn’t a sword that broke from it’s bonds on that day, it wasn’t the gun that floated up into the atmosphere and devastated half of the world’s population before it could be tamed. No, it was a virus. The virus. Manufactured from the spores found within an Arctic flower, Miasma32 was a man made scythe, cutting down people where they stood.

This was not the end of it’s purpose though. Oh no. That would merely make it a ‘standard’ virus. What the scientists in charge of this project wanted was something original. Something that wouldn’t just kill but would hand over people’s minds.

Seeping into the body, Miasma32 shuts down it’s systems, giving the appearance of death. Then, 32 hours later the body awakes. There stands exactly the same person as before, but now the virus has it’s genetic pattern within their nervous system, within their brain. Of course, the disaster seemed over, the virus was “Out of Date” and the laboratory was shut down, the scientists put on trial.

Less than a week later the five scientists were found dead in their cells and the people who had been affected by Misama32 developed two strange green circles on their necks, about the size of marbles. It had begun. The ‘Miasma’s’ didn’t act like zombies but were, for all intents and purposes…zombies.

In an attempt to discover the cause of this, a small group re-opened the laboratory in Esthar and went through all the records. Hidden deep within the encrypted files were the orders given to the scientists by the Maxis Corporation, a collection of Utopians, people wanting a better world whatever the cost. They were the ones with the literal buttons controlling half of the human race.

One hope remained. Rebellion from the half who hadn’t been affected. It’s one of humanity’s greatest assets, rebelling against oppression. But this wasn’t just oppression. They were fighting a World Civil War. One which they had to win or they would lose themselves.
